Why didn't a premiership club snap up Peter Lovenkrands?

I mean he expressed a desire to leave to gain top flight football, and who can blame him. He then after no offers decided to move back to the relegated toon. I mean he isn't Chelsea's standard but certainly teams like Hull, Wigan,Bolton will be slapping themselves for not picking up the most intelligent player in the Championship. I mean the runs he makes are top cl, him and a big man i.e. Andy Carroll work excellently. And he has got goals, i reckon he would score 15 a season in the premier league, and most teams will pay 10 million + for that sort of player.
