I'm confused about why people blame Tony Blair for the Iraq war?

I know people didn't want to go etc but the UK is part of NATO so wasn't it our responsibility to ally ourselves with the USA since it had been attacked?? I mean, why was there like a choice about it if being part of NATO means we had to ally ourselves...I really don't understand the whole situation, does anybody feel like giving me a brief kind of summary?
