Is it really okay just to walk up to a girl a say whats sup?

so im gonna make it short and to the point there's this girl that i would like to get to know better and eventually ask out, the only time i can get a chance to talk to her is in the lunch line, now i see so many question on her from guys asking how can i talk to this girls, and i see so many answers saying just say whats sup my name is *****. i mean is it seriously that easy wouldn't girls find that weird, girls has that ever happened to you and did you becomes friends with that guy???
